Government Museum Chennai

Created in 1851 Government Museum complex is a collection of buildings which create a large museum complex in Egmore. Also known as Madras Museum this is the second oldest museum in India and has the largest collection of Roman Antiquities outside Europe. Covering an area of 16.25 acres the building situated in this place are over 100 years old. The government museum houses several galleries which gives an insight of a variety of artifacts and objects covering diverse fields.

National Art Gallery.

National Art Gallery one of the oldest galleries boasts spectacular architecture and very interesting collections on display. The red stone building attracts and lures visitors. Sandalwood sculptures are another prominent draw to this gallery. This stunning building is a marvel of Indo-Saresnic architecture. St.Andrews Church

St.Andrews Church in Egmore built in 1821 AD, exists as a heritage site as well as one of the greatest tourist attractions. Built in 7th Century AD, the Kapaleeshwar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva is unique example of Dravidian Marvel. The Temple tank is surrounded by broad streets on all four sides. Thronged by devotees throughout the year the Temple hosts different kinds of Pujas and major festivals. A well known landmark in the heart of Mylapore, Chennai, this Temple is visited by thousands during the famed Arupattu Movar Festival.

Fort St George

One of the gloriest landmarks of Chennai Fort St George lies along the shores of Bay of Bengal. The fort is considered to be one of the first establishments of British in India. It holds great importance and is well maintained by Archaeological Survey of India and has stood the test of time. Fort St George is primarily sectioned into St Mary’s Church and the fort museum. The fort now houses the Legislative Assembly and the Government administrative offices.
