As a part of my job and even hobby, I always make it a point to try out dishes from different parts of the country. I always had a special liking for Guwahati cuisine and whenever I got the chance I use to make or try out dishes specific to this city.
When I got a couple of days off work, I quickly booked ticket to the city to enjoy its many delicacies. Ticket booking was done on the low cost indigo airlines.
My Journey Was On Majestic IndiGo
IndiGo Airlines is a prime low cost carrier in the country, known for its quick flights and easy connectivity between key metro and secondary cities. Those seeking to cut down on their travel costs will find this carrier to be ideal for their needs, as they can enjoy a lovely and comfortable flight journey minus the heavy ticket prices. Those travelling on vacation with their family or in a group will find this carrier to be ideal or their needs.
Currently the airline is the largest in terms of passengers carried. It is catering to 44 destinations and is expanding its flight network to cater to more traffic.
Imphal to Guwahati Indigo flights last fifty five minutes. My journey on the carrier was smooth and comfortable. Once the flight landed in the Guwahati airport, I quickly took an airport cab to reach the hotel.
My Place of Stay Was a Simple Two Star Hotel
My place of stay is the majestic Green Valley Hotel. This is a simple, two star hotel located in Ulubari and offers accommodation ranging from single room to quadruples. It has 19 rooms which are spread across four floors.
My room was spacious, but very simple, with the basic essentials needed for a comfortable stay. The hotel has a very modern and delightful restaurant, where you can enjoy various meals of the day. It also has a modern conference room, where work activities can be conducted. Other facilities are travel desk and housekeeping.
Savoring Delicious Dishes from Guwahati
I made my way to a local restaurant and looked into its menu to try out something interesting and inspiring enough for me to try out back at home.
Out of the many dishes that I tasted, I found the Masor tenga to be very relishing. This is a dish that is made from fish which is cooked in gravy consisting of tomatoes, aromatic spices, turmeric and soft potatoes. The dish is garnished with coriander leaves and lemon juice. It takes just ten minutes to prepare and can be eaten with roti or white rice.
Another dish that I like very much is the Ouu khatta, which is a delicious traditional dessert. It is made with elephant apple, which is cut into pieces and boiled in turmeric water. This is seasoned with mustard, jeera and udad dhal and red chilies, jaggery and coconut are added to it and the mix is left to boil till it becomes thick.
After enjoying so many delightful food varieties, I came back to the hotel to pack for my return journey to Imphal.
